The Gift of Time

Life was closing in.  Its demands and desires were pulling me in way too many directions.  I was simply…tired.

“What is WRONG with you?”  The question came within 48 hours from both my husband and my closest friend.  When I finally opened up to Ed and told him what I really needed, his agreement was immediate.  What I needed was two or three days of total solitude to focus on writing pieces for my book and time to think undisturbed.

“GO!  If that’s all you need, go do it.”  Bless his heart.  “Where do you want to go?”

I was ready with my answer.  Just a few clicks of the mouse had led me to what I am now convinced is the most wonderful bed and breakfast in the world.  Night Swan Intracoastal Bed and Breakfast is on the west bank of Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  It’s a small compound of beautifully maintained and restored old homes.  With two trained chefs as innkeepers, the food is divine.  Gourmet breakfast is served every morning, either in the dining room or on the north terrace.  Desert and cappuccino is available every evening.  Breakfast.  Think pumpkin pancakes with carmelized apples.  Desert.  Think white chocolate bread pudding.  ‘Nuff said.  The staff is attentive without being intrusive.  Perfect for my needs.

It was a gift of time undisturbed.  I made use of every precious second.  God’s word tells us to “Be still” and know that He is God.  How He delights and refreshes us with His Spirit when we actually give Him space in our lives to come in and sit awhile with us.

Now THAT is truly a gift.
