The tease on the cover of the magazine said "The most simple cake ever." I snickered. The magazine was Martha Stewart Living. The words Martha Stewart and simple don't belong in the same sentence in my world. But I was curious. Turned to page 194. There it was...the recipe. Cake from scratch, not from a box. She lost me right there. If there are more than five ingredients in the whole thing, I'm out. The estimated time was thirty minutes. It would have taken me a day and a half.
Later that same day, a cartoon on Facebook spoke to the world I live in. It said something about all those mothers posting their fancy stuff on Pinterest and ended with "I took a shower and kept the kids alive." There ya go.
This world goes round and round thanks to the mothers who are doing the best they can moment to moment. From this grandmother to the young mothers: that woman in Proverbs 31 is an ideal. Do your best. Love the kids. They will rise up and call you blessed.
Happy Mother's Day.
