John Wesley’s work as a priest in
the Church of England became the foundation of the Methodist denomination. Because his goal was first and foremost to spread the Word and
the hope of the Lord to all who would hear, he was one of the first theologians
to allow women to preach. One of these
women once wrote to him, seeking his reassurance that it was okay for her to
preach the word.
His response to her is
a direction I turn to in my own moments of doubt. It is an instruction for all of us. He wrote simply, “Sister, do all the good you
can.”
